KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, (SOKAPU) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly to invoked relevant law and declare State of Emergency in Kaduna state.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Spokesperson of the Union, Luka Binniyat, and made available to the media in Kaduna Wednesday.
The statement stated that it has been proven beyond doubt that Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i is incapable of ruling Kaduna state without inflicting severe hurt to everything that stands for peace, justice and progress in the state.
The Union averred that declaration of state of emergency will reduce tension and crises orchestrated as a result of Governor El-Rufa’i’d anti-citizens’ policies, precipitating poverty and record of high level insecurity among other negative developments under his government.
The Union while reacting to the killing of a student of Kaduna State College of Education, (COE), Gidan Waya, Kafachan, during a protest over the hike in tuition fees stated that Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i is beyond reproach and defied every wise counsel on how to reduce tension and crisis in Kaduna state.
“We are also calling for assistance from the International Community, international and local based NGOs and Human Rights Organisations, Civil Society, the Clergy, and all men and women of conscience to come together and ensure that justice is obtained for these poor students.
“El-Rufai and his government must also be held accountable for all the destructive and backward developments that have taken place in Kaduna state owned high institutions since he raised students’ tuition fees,” the statement reads.
