KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – A group under the aegis of Arewa Youth Movement for Good Governance, has alleged the conversion of land belonging to National Eye Centre by land encroachers into hideouts for kidnappers and criminal elements.
The group stated in a statement signed by its Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmadu, and made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Tuesday.
“Most building along the access road to National Eye Centre are not completed and not occupied, the purported owners were those who the Centre dragged to court.
“Now if you happened to pass through National Eye Centre road from 8pm to 1am you will notice strange caliber of boys and men that would scare you, smoking and taking dangerous substances suspected to be hard drugs.
“No normal human beings hang out in uncompleted building at such odd hours, don’t they have families or houses of their own,” it queried.
The statement further reads: “We are calling on the Chief Security Officer of the state, Mallam Nasir El Rufai, to as a matter of urgency rise to the defense of neighboring communities and the National Eye Centre, since it is the only hope of common man in Kaduna and indeed Northern Nigeria.”
The group stressed that the issue of land encroachment in National Eye Centre has become bad such that even cooperate companies like 9mobile have invaded and installed communication mask which issue is already in court.
“We hereby call on President Muhammadu Buhari to direct Inspector General of Police to fast track measures in dismantling illegal structures and arrest suspected criminals and kidnappers.”
The group also thanked Governor El-Rufai, for the ongoing massive road constructions around the metropolitan area of the state, stressing that the good people of the State will never regret giving him the mandate to pilot the State.
