Kaduna Commences Measles, Meningitis Immunization

KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – Kaduna State Government has commenced measles and meningitis immunization for children, ages nine months to five years.

A press statement issued in Kaduna by the State Coordinator, Journalists Initiative on Immunization against Polio (JAP), Mallam Lawal Dogara, said the exercise would be conducted in two phases across the state beginning from November 16 to December 3, 2019.

The statement explained that the exercise would take place in all the primary health facilities, schools, Churches, markets, designated traditional leader houses among others, adding that adequate arrangements has been made by the government and its partners to achieve success.

The statement further explained that arrangements have also been concluded to ensure that a mother does not trek more than one kilometer to get her child immunized.

The Statement called on parents and caregivers to ensure that their children and wards get the measles and meningitis vaccines.
It also solicited the support of media professionals for increased awareness on the exercise to ensure massive turn out during the exercise.
“We want to achieve 95 to 100 per cent coverage to ensure total eradication of measles and meningitis in the state,” he said.
“Ensure you take your children for vaccination posts nearest to you. It is free, safe and effective,’’ the statement reads.
