KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – Again, a 2018 Batch “B” (stream two) National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC) member, Somtochukwu Ikeanyi who served at a community school in Ungwan Barde Rido, in Chukun Local Government Area of Kaduna, has provided electricity to his community of service after over 9 months in darkness.
The Corps member on arrival in the area discovered that absence of electricity supply was a major challenge facing the community.
He immediately mobilized the people and galvanized their leaders, local government council officials, friends and well wishers into action to tackle the problem.
His dogged efforts resulted in the provision of a 500kv transformer worth N4.5m in partnership with Chukun LGA led by Hajiya Hadiza Yahuza.
Addressing community leaders and the people before commissioning the project on Thursday July 5, 2019, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mallam Isa Wana appreciated the outstanding contribution of the initiator of the project.
According to him, the role of a corps member in the community is to act as catalyst and agent of development, galvanizing efforts to bring glory to his community of service.
Wana who described Somtochukwu Ikeanyi as a shining star among his peers, called on communities in the state to support the efforts of NYSC members in delivering development projects in their communities of service.
