The Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Kaduna, on Monday, May 13, 2019, adjourned the petition of Senator Shehu Sani (PRP Kaduna Central)challenging the results of 2019 polls following the preliminary objection filed by Mallam Uba Sani the declared winner by the Independent National Elections Commission (INEC).
Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice A.H Suleiman adjourned the Pre-hearing session of the petition to May 16, 2019 when the case came up on Monday.
INEC had declared Uba Sani winner after he defeated Lawal Adamu of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), and Senator Sani of the Peoples’ Redemption Party, (PRP) in the poll.
However, both Lawal Adamu of the PDP and Senator Sani rejected the results and filed separate petitions at the Tribunal challenging Uba Sani, INEC and the APC alleging that the election was marred by massive rigging and ballot stuffings.
Aggrieved Senator Sani who had inspected the INEC election materials for the Kaduna Central Senatorial zone alleged that the result of the poll were manipulated to favor the APC candidate.
He had asked the Tribunal to rule in his favor and declare him the winner of the poll.
At the Pre-hearing session, Chairman of the Tribunal said the first respondent (Uba Sani) had filed a motion moving for the preliminary objection on the case challenging his election victory, as earlier filed by Sen Shehu Sani.
Justice Suleiman adjourned for adoption of pre-hearing conference forms of all the parties and, had set the date to rule on the motion on preliminary objection filed by Uba Sani, the first respondent.
