JIGAWA, North-West, Nigeria – A Non Governmental Organization, Action Against Hunger under its Health Nutrition and Sanitation program has pledged to support the Jigawa State Government eradicate malnutrition among other illnesses retarding child development across the state.
Spokesman of the NGO, Malam Sabiu disclosed on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Masama Village in Kiri-kasamma Local Government Area of the state
Speaking during a field visit to one of its programs Child Development Grant Programs, (CDGP), implementing site in Kiri-kasamma LGA, Malam Sabiu said the group will extend it’s humanitarian services to cut across communities in the state.
According to him, one of such programs is the implementation of child development to address malnutrition, cause effects, and remedies on children below age five, among other ailments associated with child development.
He explained that under the program a shortlisted number of nursing mothers from the three pilot councils of Gagarawa, Buji, and Kiri-kasamma were trained on modern techniques of children upkeeking in relation to their basic healthcare needs and wants for effective health care.
Village Head of Masama, Malam Garba Bulama said that over 250 nursing mothers in his domain have benefitted from the training program of the group under the
Children Health Nutrition Development Exercise aimed at child care development from time of delivery up to growing period.
The royal father appealed to the State Government to assist the community with a Primary Health Care Facility, (PHC), to ensure people get easy access to health facility.
Also, an instructor of the program in Masama village, Hajiya Rakiya Mohammed, said that the program has helped in improving the living condition and health of both residents and children in the community.
“We were trained on how to acquire skills locally to earn a living with the support of Action Against Hunger for improved community heath and sanitation of our community. So we grateful to the the NGO,” she said.
