KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – A group under the auspices of Northern Youth Council of Nigeria, (NYCN), has demanded the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), to without further delay present a certificate of return to senator-elect, Imo State Governor, Rochas Okoroacha to avoid the bridge of the constitution.
In a statement signed by its National President, Comrade Isah Abubakar, and made available to newsmen in Kaduna, said the electoral Umpire has no Constitutional right to withhold any certificate of return of any individual that has been pronounced elected and return by the returning Officer.
NYCN said failure of the Commission to present to the winner of the 23rd February election his certificate of return in person of Rochas Anayo Okorocha within 14 working days, there will be a massive protest from the youth at the headquarters of the Commission in Abuja.
“We demand that; as a matter of urgency the Commission should without any further delay present the certificate of return to Senator elect in person of Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha to avoid the bridge of the constitution.
“INEC have no Constitutional right to withhold any certificate of return of any individual that has been pronounced elected and return by the returning Officer, as tribunal have been constituted to hear electoral matters and offences, meanwhile it’s only a competent court of jurisdiction that have such power to deny any individual either return or otherwise.
“We wish to categorically state that citizen will not sit and watch institution been basterdize by some few individual at the detriment of our Nation democracy.”
