LEGASI empowers youth, women in Kaduna, Plateau

The Ladies Empowerment Goals and Support Initiative (LEGASI) is a women-led, community based, local NGO working on Women Peace and Security (WPS), Youth Peace and Security (YPS), Dialogue, Mediation, Psychosocial support
and livelihood empowerment for communities affected by Violent conflict. The organization with it’s office headquarters in Kaduna town.
Youth and women are the ones that are mostly affected as it relates to high rate of poverty, and as a result there is a high incidence of conflict related history that involves gender-based violence, youth thuggery/abuse, exploitation to all forms of vices. The youth and women faced with so many challenges, and with no access to vocational training or forms of education, often leads to complete dependence on others and making them vulnerable which LEGASI aimed to tame by supporting them in order to break this cycle by the empowerment program.
The organization empowered 16 persons in four (4) local government areas in Kaduna and Plateau States as part of the organization’s efforts in supporting communities that will help to enhance make them self-reliant for economic growth and sustenance. The beneficiary localities comprises of Nariya, Hayin Mallam Bello, Igabi, Atyap, Zangon Kataf, Ungwar Gwaiba, Samaru, Zaria all in Kaduna State and in Bassa and Bokkos of Plateau State.
The beneficiaries were trained on skills based on their areas of interest; such as tailoring, shoe making, solar installation, furniture making, metal work, barbing and laundry.
Equipping the beneficiaries in their related field would in no small measure enabled them to be self-reliant and in enhancing their productivity at the community level, hence making valuable impact and contributing to the development of their community and at the same time earning respect for being responsible citizens within their communities.
Having empowered the beneficiaries with the needed support and start-up kits/tools which will lead to increased access to capital, reduced poverty, reduced
unemployment, and in all enhanced quality of their lives by enabling them to make decisions about their lives – enhancing their economic independence.
The Beneficiaries of the empowerment and host communities showed their appreciation to LEGASI for the generosity and uplifting them from poverty as they journey to a successful venture.
The presentation of the Start-up items/tools was facilitated by the staff of LEGASI in September 2024 respectively to the deserving beneficiaries in Kaduna and Plateau States.
