Kaduna LG Polls: Peace builders advocate for peaceful exercise

KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – Ahead of the upcoming Local Government elections in Kaduna State, a coalition of Peace builders and stakeholders have intensified efforts to ensure a peaceful, free, and fair electoral processes across the state.
The Network of Peace Journalists (NPJ), Community Peace Observers (CPOs), and Conflict Mitigation and Management Regional Council (CMMRC), have joined forces to launch a sustained media campaign advocating for peaceful elections.
The coalition is actively engaging citizens using both traditional and social media platforms, stressing the importance of a transparent and violence-free electoral process.
Speaking on Thursday in Kaduna the NPJ Team Leader, Ibrahima Yakubu highlighted the involvement of over 50 media organizations from diverse platforms.
According to him, these organizations, along with other key stakeholders, are working tirelessly to raise awareness among the youth, women and the general public on the need for peace during the election period.
Yakubu shared that his team has participated in numerous live broadcasts on radio and television, where they promoted good governance and urge citizens to vote for credible candidates who will foster development in their communities.
He called on the youth to shun violence and appealed to women to resist the temptation to sell their votes.
Furthermore, Yakubu urged all stakeholders in the electoral process to ensure that the elections are free of malpractices and equally called on the candidates to act as ambassadors of peace.
 He also stressed the importance of security measures across the state to allow citizens to vote in a safe and peaceful environment.
Yakubu expressed his gratitude to the Kaduna Peace Commission, Interfaith Mediation Center, Mercy Corps, and Search for Common Ground for their unwavering commitment to promoting tolerance, understanding, and unity among diverse faith communities in the State.
