Flood sweeps four people in Anambra

AWKA, South-East Nigeria – Four persons, including a mother and her child has been reportedly swept away by flood due to torrential downpour in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The missing mother and her child, were said to be returning from a Church service when they were caught up in the deluge.
The heavy rains, which began on Thursday and continued unabated through Saturday, unleashed severe floods across the industrial community, resulting in tragic consequences.
The development has caused widespread panic and prompting a desperate search by family members and local authorities for the missing victims.
According to sources within the community, the incidents occurred at various locations, amplifying the fear and confusion among residents. “Two persons were swept away in Nnewichi, one along Nnobi Road, and another along Nnewi-Onitsha Road.
“The mother and child were on their way home from church when the floodwaters engulfed them.
Since Thursday, their family members have been frantically searching for them,” a local source disclosed.
The President-General of Nzuko-Ora (Nnewi Town Union), Dr. Madu Atueny, acknowledged the reports but indicated that confirmation of the incidents was still pending. “I have heard about the unfortunate events, but we are yet to verify the details fully,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the authorities would launch an investigation into the matter.
“We are aware of the situation and will be conducting a thorough investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding these incidents,” he assured.
