KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Hajiya Zainab Ahmed and seventeen others has baged award of Excellency from the National Council of Women Societies, (NCWS) Kaduna State.
The award presented at a Women Summit to mark the 60th anniversary of NCWS held in Kaduna on Thursday.
Hajiya Zainab Ahmed was nominated for her role in the emancipation of women and empowerment of the girl-child. She is said to have been a role model to many women in the society.
Similarly, the Executive Director, Gender Awareness Trust, (GAT) Dr Lydia Umar, also received an award for excellence advocacy for the promotion of women and girl-child.
In her welcome address, President of the State Council, Mrs Deborah Ishaya, reassured the women that NCWS will not relent to seek for ways and avenues to better the lot of women, children and the state in general to change the narratives of women in the state as a whole.
According to her, NCWS under her watch in the state and within the limited resources and opportunities carried out the followings: awareness creation to the grassroot on prevention of childhood killer disease and other forms of outbreak of virus, skill acquisition trainings.
Others include; adult education, empowerment programmes, economic summit, leadership summit, capacity building on e-banking/cashless banking, disbursement of loans through Bank of Industry, (BOI), and visitation to female in prisons.
The NCWS President appreciated Governor Nasir El-Rufai for running a women inclusive government by giving women key strategic offices especially for choosing a woman as his running mate in 2019 Guber race in the state.
Highlight of the event includes, exhibitions, presentation of awards to individuals, Agencies, Local Government Councils and Cooperate Organizations.
