SOKOTO, North-West, Nigeria – The United Nations Children’s Fund, (UNICEF) in collaboration with partners has trained 840 teachers in 210 primary schools on safer learning environment free of violence in Sokoto state.
The Local Education Secretary, Bodinga LGA, Alhaji Nuruddini Malami, described the programme as beneficial as it promotes safety of children and enhance relationships, and urged stakeholders to consider expanding the programme to other primary schools across the state.
He said that the programme has impacted positively on learning conditions and continues responsive actions in educational environments.
“Pupils were grouped and mentored on ways to protect themselves, discuss and identify ways on general violence with burning issues affecting school environments,” Malami said.
