KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – Executive Vice Chairman of Kaduna State Peace Commission, (KSPC), Dr. Saleh Momale, has hinted that residents of Kaduna state are committed and resolute in finding ways of resolving the problems bedeviling the state.
Momale gave the hint during the commemoration of the 2023 International Day of Peace organized by the Commission in partnership with Mercy, Corps, ActionAid Nigeria, Global Peace Development, Interfaith Mediation Center, Network for Peace Journalists, and Kaduna Network for Peace and Security in Kaduna on Thursday, September 21.
He said the residents intend to tackle these problems through cooperation and partnership that transcends the narrow divides of ethnicity, religion, and socio-economic pursuit, which had previously been the major drivers of violent conflicts.
He said the theme of this year’s celebration signified a call to action that recognizes the urgent need for individuals and groups to take collective responsibility in the pursuit of peace.
According to him, this underscores the vital role that each person plays in promoting peace, emphasizing that peace is not solely the responsibility of governments or international organizations, but is, in fact, a shared aspiration that requires the active involvement of individuals.
The Executive Vice Chairman urged the gathering to let their takeaway from the celebration be a renewed commitment to promoting peaceful and inclusive societies, ensuring access to justice for all, and building effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels. “Let us heed the United Nations’ call to action and continue to work tirelessly towards a more peaceful and prosperous world,” Momale admonished.
In his remarks, Executive Director, of Global Peace Development, Mr. Ebruke Eskie, reminded the gathering that peace starts within ourselves, by fostering empathy, understanding, and respect towards one another regardless of differences.
According to him, peace is not passive, but an active pursuit that requires our unwavering dedication and commitment, urging all to seize every opportunity to make a difference, no matter how small, for it is through our collective actions that we can create a ripple effect that transforms lives and shape a more peaceful future.
In separate remarks, Kaduna State Secretary, Ja’matul Nasril Islam (JNI) Ibrahim Kufana, noted that without peace there will be no meaningful development in a given society.
He urged Kaduna residents to appreciate, and work for peace, not only in their communities, but even in their offices, markets, and wherever they find themselves. “We should celebrate, appreciate, and continue to work for peace for a better and safe society.”
The Secretary, Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN) Kaduna state chapter, Reverend Ma’aji Caleb, quoting from the scripture said we are admonished to live in peace with one another so that we can be blessed.
He said for Kaduna residents to experience peace, development, and progress, everyone must own and promote it.
