UYO, South-South Nigeria – A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Mr Eyo Edet popularly known as Eyo Aswang, has been abducted by gunmen in Oron Local Government Area of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Akwa State Ibom Command, SP Odiko Macdon, who confirmed the abduction on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 said the state Commissioner of Police (CP), Olatoye Durosinmi, has ordered investigation into the matter.
He added that the CP had visited the scene of the incident and the water front in Oron where a Sienna vehicle used for the operation was burnt by the abductors. “We’ve also seen the Sienna used to perpetuate the act.
“Investigations have commenced already and I’m sure the perpetrators will be brought to book in no distant time,” SP Macdon said.
Edet, who was the Deputy Coordinator of Divine Mandate Organisation in Oron at the last election, was kidnapped at his filling station in Oron on Monday.
An eye witness said the gunmen took the victim into a Sienna vehicle and subsequently into a speed boat.
The abductors who set the Sienna vehicle ablaze before speeding off into the creeks, are yet to contact Edet’s family.
