MAIDUGURI, North-East, Nigeria – The University of Maiduguri has debunked stories making the rounds that it is planning to increase certificate collection fee for its ex-students, saying the institution has no plan for such increment.

Deputy Vice Chancellor, (DVC), of the institution, Prof. Mohammed Mele, made the clarification while speaking to newsmen in Maiduguri on Thursday, describing it as fake news.

According to Prof Mele, there was no circular to that effect and the university has no plan for such increment, ‘at least not this year,’ he said.

He called on all ex-students who were yet to collect their certificates to disregard the news as the certificate collection fee still remains N15, 000.

The rumor making the rounds on the social media generated sharp reactions from alumni who are yet to collect their certificates.

According to the rumor, any ex-student who is yet to collect his or her certificate within the week would be charged the sum of N50, 000 instead of the fee of N15, 000 currently charged.

The story goes; “This is to inform all the ex-students of University of Maiduguri that any former student who have not collected his certificate should do it this week. By next week the collection will be N50,000. Do notify friends. Thanks”, the rumour stated.
