MAIDUGURI, North-East, Nigeria – Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, on Tuesday in Buratai village, Biu Local Government Area, commissioned a newly built mega school with capacity for 1,500 students.

He also approved for the recruitment of additional 20 teachers to be selected from the host community for deployment to the School.

The governor explained that the immediate recruitment would be on ad-hoc basis, but teachers who prove their capacity and commitment would be given permanent employment and fully integrated into the state civil service.

In his welcome address, Borno State Commissioner for Education, Engr. Lawan Wakilbe, said in the last three years, the Zulum administration was able to recruit about 1,000 teachers, trained and posted to schools.

He also informed that accommodation for teachers were constructed in Maiduguri, Banki and Mafa towns.

He added that the administration has so far built 24 mega-size schools and rehabilitated over 600 classrooms within 100 schools across the state.

He said 458 WASH facilities were also constructed in 350 primary and post-primary institutions across the state.

The governor also announced the approval for the construction of 200 housing units in Miringa village, Biu LGA, this he said, would reduce housing deficit, particularly now that Internally Displaced Persons, (IDPs) were safely returning to their communities.
