APC Primaries Saga: We’ll Not Accept Indirect Primaries – Aspirants Forum

KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – A group, All Progressives Congress, (APC) Stakeholders and Aspirants Forum in Kaduna State on Friday said it has objected to Indirect Primaries due to its reliance on delegate system which is prone to manipulative influence of a few and vote buying.
Spokesperson of the group and a gubernatorial aspirant, Sir Halal Falal, who stated this at a press conference in Kaduna, said that the APC as a governing party must walk the talk.
He stated that it is an open secret that the APC in Kaduna State has been under the total control of the Governor and his anointed godsons and daughters.
The Forum said with consciences bought by the highest bidders, and their loyalties to the Governor and his cronies, the delegates would rather be head bent on endorsing only money bags and the anointed candidates of the Governor.
Falal further said that if APC is to retain Kaduna state, it must throw up for election of strong candidates for her gubernatorial and legislative elections, candidates who can take on and win against the possibly strong candidates of other parties.
He said that the APC came to power on the mantra of fighting corruption and enthronement of ideals of participatory democracy.
“The bulk of the members of the party including critical stakeholders who have given their all to enthroned APC in Kaduna State have been marginalized and excluded from the mainstream of the affairs of the party.
“Perceived enemies of the Governor are hounded and persecuted to no end. Jobs are lost, homes and businesses are demolished with careless abandon and extreme premeditated malice.
“The recent ward, local government and state congresses could rightly be said to be the icing on the cake. Officials of the party were single handedly picked by the Governor and his aides to run the affairs of the party.
“This is the backdrop against which the mass exodus from the party by its members has been taking place in the entire 23 Local Government Areas of Kaduna State.”
Falal who frown at the way the affairs of the party is being run in the state further said that the outcome of the congresses is still being contested at the court.
“Given these deep rifts in the party, our Forum fails to see how Indirect Primaries can produce candidates with mass based support.
“We urge the Kaduna State Governor and the party in the state to be on the same page with our incorruptible President Muhammadu Buhari, and the national leadership of the party, to have the moral courage not only to do what is right but by taking the part of honour, and shunning such corruptive tendencies of Indirect Primaries in our body polity, but equally important to have the audacity to test their popularity through Direct Primaries,” he said.
