KADUNA, North-West Nigeria – The Kaduna State Emergency Nutrition Plan, (KADENAP) has said from 2017 to date, not less than N1billion has been spent on treating malnourished children in Kaduna State.
Project Manager of KADENAP, Umar Bamalli, disclosed at a Media parley On Nutrition Interventions in Kaduna State, on Thursday, July 21, 2022.
He explained that the funds were expended on treating malnourished children with ready to eat therapeutic foods; pointing out that from 2017 to date, as a result of support, the state has treated over 82,000 children suffering from malnutrition.
“Supported by UNICEF and Alive and Thrive, the state was able to reach 500,000 people with nutrition messages,” he added.
Bamalli also disclosed that the media was supported in training; “We also facilitated increased contributions from local government areas. Every month each contributes N1m to malnutrition issues in the state.
“We also support community volunteers with stipends every month for logistics,” he said.
He was optimistic that before 2022 ends all 23 Local Government Areas, (LGAs) in the state will be managing acute malnutrition in their respective areas, in a project supported by the United Nations UNICEF.
The Project Manager thanked supporters of the project, especially UNICEF, Alive and Thrive and ARIN Project.
