Zulum flags-off N11.5 billion major roads, bridges construction

MAIDUGURI, North-East, Nigeria – Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, on Thursday, flagged-off N11.5 billion for eight major roads construction and two bridges cited in key parts of Maiduguri, the state capital.
Speaking at the event, Zulum said the works are part of his administration’s urbanization drive through infrastructural development as part of the State recovery and development plan.
The project with a combine coverage of 13.34 kilometers are among 20 deliverables listed by the Governor during his 2022 budget presentation at the State Assembly in November 2021.
A Chinese construction company, Eighteenth Engineering Company, (EEC) and an indigenous construction company, Obtuse Tech Engineering Company Limited, are to deliver the roads in one year in respect of contract awards recently signed by both companies.
The 10 construction works comprises of dualization of Ahmadu Bello Way to Bama road junction, Shehu Sanda Kura road, Monday Market Roundabout, Elkanemi Roundabout and Mogoram to Lafiya road with a bridge to be cited at Ahmadu Bello Way linking Bama road, and another bridge to connect Elkanemi Roundabout to Lagos Street junction.
Other construction works will cover Baga Road Market – Jajeri – Umarari- Bulabulin and another one to link Texaco- Churchkime – Abdu One roads.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Engineer Ali Lawan, who currently oversees the ministry, assured the governor that supervisors will work closely with contractors to ensure a standard and timely delivery.
Engr. Lawan had on January 14, 2021, presided over the awards and signing of contract agreements between the Borno State Government and the two contractors for the projects.
The event held at the popular Post Office Roundabout on Ahmadu Bello Way had in  attendance the Deputy Governor, Umar  Kadafur; Secretary to the State Government, (SSG) Usman Shuwa; State APC Chairman, Ali Dalori; commissioners, site engineers, among others.
