MAIDUGURI, North-East, Nigeria – Barely seven months after  commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari, one of the mega schools in Borno State,  Goni Kachallari Government Day Technical Secondary School, was gutted by fire on Monday.
Residents of Kachallari Community who called for immediate investigation into the incident, described it as a major setback in the educational sector of the state which has suffered Boko Haram and ISWAP attacks in recent years.
An eyewitness, Makinta Bukar, said the multi-million Naira Technical Secondary School located at the Goni Kachallari Community along the Maiduguri Gamboru Ngala highway, had it’s third floor completely razed down.
According to him, despite the combined efforts of the State and Federal Fire Services, including a private organization; Chemise Construction Company working on a nearby project who also deployed their machineries in support of the fire fighters could not remedy the situation.
As at the time of filling this report, the source of the incident is yet to be ascertain, especially when the school is not connected to the National grid, or generating plant, rather is being powered by solar energy.
Some of the workers on site who do not want their names on print affirmed that the school has no kitchen facility.
