KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – The Coalition of Arewa Youth Forum, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency, sack the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, over his negative comments on the ongoing Nigeria River Ports, which it viewed as sabotage on the nation’s economy.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Tuesday, National Coordinator of the group, Alhaji Nuhu Sani Lere, lamented that it’s uncalled for the Minister to appear on NTA programme and said the Federal Government’s efforts to provide four river ports in the country as waste of funds.
The group described such a move as a sabotage on Nigeria’s economy, seeing that the present administration is committed to diversifying from mono to an economy supported by solid minerals, agricultural and other non oil exports.
The group further said that it is disheartening for the  Minister to say, “Nigerians produce nothing” on a programme where people can view worldwide.
The group quoted Amaechi as saying; “Nigerians want Baro Port and I constructed it for them, that’s all.”
According to the statement, “The Minister is practically discouraging the efforts of the Federal Government on sea ports comparing it with train transportation which according to him is faster and more secured.”
The group lamented that Mr. Rotimi Amechi does not in anyway deserved to serve a day as a minister of transportation because of his incompetence in managing huge economic potentials in the transport sector.
The group viewed his comment as jeopardy to the government that pays his bills and gave him the opportunity to serve as a two term minister.
