Zulum conducts enrolment of 1,163 IDPs children into schools in Borno

MAIDUGURI, North-West, Nigeria – A total
of 1,163 children of Internally Displaced Persons, (IDPs) at the weekend were enrolled into primary schools in Northern Borno.
The pupils who hailed from Guzamala and Abadam Local Government Areas of the State, had been out of schools following displacement of their parents and guardians due to Boko Haram attacks on their communities.

Govenor Babagana Zulum, appealed to parents to allow their children enroll in schools; pointing out that where functional schools are provided, social welfare assistance from government will eventually be restricted to parents who allowed their children and wards to attend schools whether western or combined curriculum of Islamic and western education.
He also addressed secondary school students in Damasak and those who have written their senior school certificate exams, in preparation for higher institution, and promised that government will support to help them actualize their dreams in life.

Zulum had traveled to Damasak in Mobbar Local Government Area at the weekend where he launched the distribution of water pumps, fertilizers, seeds, chemicals and N5,000 cash gift each to 1,200 irrigation farmers.
He also supervised the distribution of food items to 10,000 IDPs. Each of the families received 25kg of rice, 25kg of beans, 25kg of maize and 5 litres of cooking oil as part of interventions before they can generate livelihoods for themselves in Damasak.

Damasak is on the shores of Lake Chad, and a former stronghold of Boko Haram insurgents before it was liberated and citizens now resettled.
The governor traveled with Senator representing Northern Borno, Abubakar Kyari, an indigene of Damasak.
Also in the trip is state caretaker chairman of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Ali Dalori; Commissioner for Agric, Engr Bukar Talba; and stakeholders of Mobbar LG.
