KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – The Congress of Northern Nigeria Christians, (CNNC) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to embark on a complete overhaul of top echelons of Nigeria’s security architecture for better results since massive loss of lives have become virtually daily and unstoppable.
The Congress stated this in a statement signed by its Media and Publicity Secretary Larry Yammai and made available to the media in Kaduna on Monday, July 2, 2018.
Mr Yammai who expressed dismay over the recent wanton destruction of lives and property in Plateau state said the attack has hallmarks of being a premeditated crisis and a plan to sabotage farming activities on the Plateau and other Christian dominated areas.
According to him, the attack on majority Christian enclaves in the Plateau by alleged herdsmen has a well calculated, oiled and administered tactical masterpiece to completely sack our members from these areas so that they could be disenfranchised come 2019 elections.
“CNNC calls upon its membership to remain vigilant that they may not be used to act against the collective interest of any of our Brethren. CNNC has also noted that among the ten pilot states chosen to “benefit” from the plan to be implemented in a total of 94 locations are those in the North particularly Benue and Taraba states that have existing laws that have direct implication with what the Federal Government is proposing yet the immediate stakeholders and political leadership in these states were reportedly not consulted.
“It is horrifying that despite the liberty of the defendants to file an appeal to a higher court of competent jurisdiction MURIC has foreclosed that process by its extra-judicial pronouncement. It cannot be said that MURIC acted in ignorance but deliberate mischief,” he said.
