Security Tops agenda, As Northeast Governors meet in Maiduguri

MAIDUGURI, North-East, Nigeria – The Forum of Northeast Governors of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe states are meeting in Maiduguri the Borno State capital.
The meeting is a follow up to the first held in March in Gombe hosted by Governor Inuwa Yahaya.
Borno Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum started receiving the governors from Friday afternoon to early Saturday, August 8, 2020 in Maiduguri.
The opening ceremony held at the Government House in Maiduguri where Zulum welcomed his colleagues after which they went into closed door.
In his remarks, Gov Zulum, laid emphasis on security challenges bedeviling the region, unemployment, over dependence on federal allocation and how to move the region forward.
The governors will in addition to discussing security and development issues, receive presentations from Northeast Development Commission, (NEDC) led by its Managing Director; Lafarge Ashaka the GMD, NNPC; AIGP Zone 15 and the Theatre Commander 7 Division of the Nigerian Army.
Earlier, a technical committee comprising Secretaries of Governments from the six states and focal persons from the NEDC had brainstorm for four days to come up with an agenda.
The team chaired by the SSG, Gombe state, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi; met governor Zulum to brief him ahead of the meeting holding in Maiduguri.
In attendance were governors of Adamawa, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri; Bauchi, Bala Mohammed and Gombe, Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya while Taraba and Yobe were represented by their Deputies.
