Flood: Zulum Tours Affected Communities in Maiduguri Metropolis

MAIDUGURI, North-East, Nigeria – Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, on Friday, August 7, 2020 visited communities in Maiduguri metropolis affected by recent floods.
Zulum, who commenced the tour at about 6am on Friday morning touched the following communities in the metropolis: Dala Dolori Tudu, Jiddari Polo, Galadima Area, Old Maiduguri and Bulumkutu General Area.
On his entourage was the State Commissioner of Environment, Member representing Jere Federal Constituency, and other members of the state Committee on Flood Control in Maiduguri and Jere.
The Borno helmsman directed the Ministry of Environment to ensure timely completion of a feasibility study earlier directed, which will addressed the issue of floods in the state capital.
It would be recalled that the Governor had last year directed a comprehensive research be carried out by the state Ministry of Environment in collaboration with the Center for Disaster Risk Management in University of Maiduguri to addressed the issue of perennial flood in the state.
However, as a short term measure the Governor directed that water ponds around Bulumkutu and Dala be distilled
Beside the flood assessment, the governor also inspected the construction of new Mega Secondary School at Old Maiduguri, 10 km road and drainage network in Jiddari Polo.
