Borno Govt. to Remodel 76 Primary Schools in Maiduguri

MAIDUGURI, North-West, Nigeria – Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has unveiled plans of his administration to remodel 76 Primary Schools in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, (MMC).
He disclosed this during an assessment tour of rehabilitation of some Primary schools in Maiduguri on Wednesday, July 15, 2020.
He said the focus of his administration for the next one year is to rehabilitate all the 76 existing Primary Schools in the MMC.
Zulum said that additional classrooms will be constructed where there’s need for it, adding that Government will furnish all classrooms, provide water facilities and ensure adequate qualified teachers.
“In the meantime, we will first rehabilitate all the existing structures, provide a very good perimeter fence, provide water facilities, and furnish all the classrooms so that our schools will be habitable,” Zulum said.
The Governor noted that while building structures, Government will look into the manpower deficit in the education sector, and announced a plan to employ 1000 teachers soon.
Among the thirteen Primary Schools earmarked for rehabilitation in the first phase of this initiative are; Goni Damgari Primary School, Maimalari Barracks Primary School, and Mustapha Umar Elkanemi Integrated Qur’anic Model Primary School.
Responding to a community request, the Governor directed Commissioner of Housing and Energy to immediately assessed power problems in Goni Damgari for immediate response.
The Borno helmsman also approved the construction of a new Primary Healthcare Center, (PHC) in Goni Damgari, to increase access to healthcare service delivery in the area.
