MAIDUGURI, North-East, Nigeria – Governor Babagana Zulum’s palliative train on Monday, returned to IDP camps where 1,500 displaced persons in five Local Government Areas, (LGAs) of Marte, Konduga, Mafa, Bama and Dikwa received relief materials.

The beneficiaries were reached at Muna Kumburi IDPs camp along Gamboru Ngala road in Jere LGA.

The palliatives distribution train then moved to Wards in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC), where over 30,000 households were reached in 13 Wards in the last two weeks.

In today’s return to Muna, 896 male and 564 female IDPs from Marte, Konduga, Mafa, Bama and Dikwa LGAs each received an emergency intervention package of food items.

The package contained 10 kg of rice, 10 kg of beans, 10 kg of maize, packets of salt, two cartons of indomie and 3 litres of cooking oil.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Chairman of the high powered Palliative Distribution Committee, Engineer Bukar Talba, explained that the items distributed were part of the contributions from the Victims Support Fund, (VSF), to the Borno State Government to ease hardships caused by the lockdown order.

“Some of the items here are support from the VSF to the Borno State Government. I wish to express on behalf of the Government and people of Borno our sincere appreciation for the support,” Talba said.

The Chairman added that his Committee will complete the remaining two Wards in MMC on Tuesday, May 12, 2020.

The Assistant Program Officer,
in VSF, Tijjani Alhaji Hassan said during the exercise that the support was hastily made to ensure that people in the grassroot are reached during the lockdown.

It would be recalled that on Saturday, April 25, Governor Zulum flagged-off the palliatives distribution at an, IDP camp – Customs-House, in Jere to reduce hardships caused by the Covid-19 lockdown.
