NNPC to Establish New Infectious Disease Hospital in Borno …As Zulum Receives Minister, NNPC’s GMD

MAIDUGURI, North-East, Nigeria – The Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, has said the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, (NNPC), will build a new infectious disease hospital in Borno state to support it public health system.

The minister made the disclosure when Governor Babagana Zulum received him and the Managing Director of NNPC, Mele Kyari, in Maiduguri on Saturday.

Sylva and the GMD were in the state to render support in the ongoing fight against Covid-19.

The minister informed the Governor that NNPC will not only build a hospital, but would also donates some medical equipment and consumables critical to healthcare management to the state.

Sylva explained that earlier in March 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari, had set up a Presidential Taskforce to convert Covid-19 pandemic and its attendant impact on critical sectors of the nation’s economy, headed by the Secretary to Government of Federation, Boss Mustapha.

According to him, it was in response to the President’s initiative that actors in the petroleum industry embarked upon making interventions on three areas: provision of medical consumables, deployment of logistics, and in-patient support system and delivery of medical infrastructure.

Zulum while expressing appreciation to the minister and NNPC GMD, who hails from the state described the intervention as timely, especially given the number of Internally Displaced Persons, (IDPs) in the state with increasing need for medical attention.

“The establishment of this infrastructure will add value to the already existing facilities we have.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Borno State, we remain eternally grateful for all the support,” he said.
