… Commends Inspector General of Police
ABUJA, Nigeria – The President, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN), Comrade Ahmed Aigbona, has said the success recorded at the 2020 Nigeria Police Games, (NPG) in Anambra state is an indication that the event has come of age, hence the need for encouragement and sustainability of such standard.
Aigbona who applauded the Anambra State Government for the successful hosting of over 3000 athletes at the just concluded NPG stated that the event is commendable.
In a statement issued by the SWAN President, further explained that the commitment of the Inspector General of Police and Anambra State Government has clearly shown that Nigeria as a nation is deeply a sports loving country.
“As Sports Writers, we need to state categorically clear that the NPG is an avenue that would provide Nigeria a platform to discover sporting talents in the Nigeria Police that would re-enact the heroic and historic performances of the likes of ACP Chioma Ajunwa, who at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, U.S., attained the feat of becoming the first athlete from Nigeria to win an Olympic gold medal,” he stated.
Aigbona also lauded the synergy between the Nigeria Police Sports Committee, headed by AIG, Usman Alkali and various Sports Associations through the Sports Ministry for the provision of graded referees and other officials for the games.
“It is our joy that the 2020 NPG shows that the aim of the event which is to strategically engage the Nigerian Police to entertain and build goodwill with the general public has been improved upon.”
