19,000 Households In Gajiram Receive Food Items, As Zulum Visits LGA

MAIDUGURI, North-East, Nigeria – Nineteen thousand households, each with minimum of six family members on Tuesday received varieties of food and none food items in Gajiram in Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.

Zulum directly supervised the distribution of these items while spending the entire day in the town.

Over 11,300 females received wrappers and a token of cash gift of N5,000 each, while 7,800 male households received a bag of rice, maize and a 3 litres of cooking oil each.

The beneficiaries were mostly Internally Displaced Persons, (IDPs) in formal camps and within host communities.

The Governor had on February 2, 2019 assessed facilities destroyed by insurgents in Gajiram, during which he ordered the immediate rehabilitation of affected buildings.

Municipal and traditional institutions were part of infrastructures vandalized by the insurgents. Rebuilding them will pave way for the restoration of civil authority in the town.

The Member representing Monguno/Marte/Nganzai Federal House of Reps, Barrister MT Monguno, Chairperson of SEMA and members of the State Executive Council were led in the distribution by the Governor.

Zulum informed the gathering that, his administration will do everything possible to restore peace in the state, which will enable people return to their farmlands.

He also charged elders and stakeholders during a meeting to cooperate with the security agencies by providing information on suspicious movements.

“I charged you all to cooperate with the security operatives.
This will enable them restore normalcy in our land, and our people can go back to their farmlands.

“We cannot continue to depend on food aid to survive. With the kind of resources we inject in providing relief items, you can only imagine the development projects we would have executed.

“In most cases, during the distribution exercises, I tried to resist shading tears, when will our people stop queing to receive relief items,” he said.

Governor Zulum was also at Gajiram Mega Primary School, where he supervised the enrollment of new pupils for immediate resumption of academic activities. He assured of all the necessary support to ensure all schools in Gajiram were reopened.

“Education is a game changer, ensure that the enrollment figures are matched with the classroom capacity. I will provide the uniform, reading materials and all other facilities, we will ensure sustainability insha Allah.”
