KADUNA, North-West Nigeria – Members of Nigeria Union Of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, on Thursday paid a condolence visit to the family of late Veteran Journalist, Dominic Uzu, at their Goningora residence in Chikun LG Kaduna State.
The visit was led by NUJ Vice President Zone A, Comrade Yusuf Idris, including the State Council Chairman, Comrade Adamu Yusuf, Council Secretary and Assistant Secretary, Comrade John Femi Adi and Bala Shingdon respectively.
Others are; Chairman of NAWOJ Kaduna State Chapter, Hajiya Fatima Aliyu, as well as elders and other members of the Council.
Addressing widow of the late colleague, Comrade Yusuf, said members present at the visit represented the entire NUJ as a body and were there to condole her, the immediate and extended family of their late colleague and friend, Dominic.
“We in the NUJ are also deeply grieved by his death because we are so close in this profession as colleagues and friends.
“We will miss the professional and friendly advice he willingly offers to all of us.
“Please, Ma, we urge you to take courage in the saying that God gives, and God takes.
“However, we in the NUJ will always avail ourselves to assist you and the family in every possible way we can.”
Describing the late Dominic Uzu as a symbol of peace, Comrade Yusuf recalled how he brokered peace when the Council had a problem, where he said, ‘Please
this man says he wants peace, give him peace.’ And so it was.
After his emotional laden speech during which some members broke down in tears, especially the narration of Dominic’s appearance at NUJ National Executive Committee meeting in Kogi State last year, as if he was there to say, ‘bye bye’ to all.
Elder Joseph Edegbo offered prayer for the reposed of the soul of the late Dominic Uzu.
He prayed that God will give the immediate and extended family the fortitude to bear the irrepairable loss.
