KADUNA, North-West, Nigetia –
For orphans of Du Merci Orphanage home at Narayi High Cost in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, it was not a Happy New Year celebration, as investigating Officers from the Kano State Police Command stormed the home in company of the Co-Founder, Mr Solomon Tarfa and later forcefully took away 9 orphans.
The orphans who were hosting members of the media on their preparations for the New Year celebration were surprised to see Mr. Solomon Tarfa, whom they fondly referred to as daddy being escorted into the premises by plain clothes policemen.
One of the Orphans, 30-year-old, Sarah Tarfa, said she has lived all her lives at the orphanage and she is a graduate from Bayero University Kano, (BUK).
She expressed dismay over the actions of the security personnel because they have enjoyed the best treatment from the founders of the center.
Sarah, a teacher who is a graduate of Adult Education and Community Development explained that to the best of her knowledge there is no sharp practices in the Home.
“We were at home here and I don’t think you can get any better treatment in any other places because they see us as their children,”she said
Speaking to the media later, the
sister to the Co-Founder, Mrs Maria Phil Ariyo, said the home is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, (CAC) and has been in existence for over 30 years.
The headquarter of the Orphanage home is in Kano and all the children at the home are either picked from the streets or from the hospital.
“Information reaching me revealed that the children slept at the police station and were later moved to Nasarawa Orphanage in Kano.
“What surprised me most is why are you moving the children from Kaduna home to another home in Kano?
“We are waiting for the police to state the reason for the arrest of the founders and why taking away the children,” she said.
