New Media Enhances Economy Development – Don

KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – The Dean School of Postgraduate Studies, Bayero University, Kano, Professor Umaru Pate, has said a proper harnessed and creative management of the New Media by Government will facilitate the control of Nigeria’s economy by her citizens.

He noted that technology not only controls, but facilitates the package and distribution of content, production and distribution of goods and services.

Pate stated this at the maiden Public Lecture/Award Presentation organized by the Arewa Online Publishers Association, (AOPA) held at Arewa House, Kaduna on Wednesday, where he bagged an award of excellence.

Speaking on the theme: “The Role of New Media In Nation Building”, Pate said the intrusive characteristic of the New Media underlines its importance in our national life and development process.

 He said the online publishers and journalists have a responsibility of packaging credible and reliable contents that promote the national good while guiding against sensationalism, fake news and hate speech which are ravaging the entire country today.
“The New Media provides a veritable platform for the promotion of investment and tourism, advertisement, mass education and information, social cohesion, and investment into the future of Nigeria and upcoming generations.
 “Creative and prevalent acquisition and deployment of the New Media in the development process could promote vigour, innovation and dynamism thereby improving productivity and standard of living.

“On the other hand, it is the responsibility of government to manage and keep apace with the dynamism of emerging technologies,” he said.
