KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – The Yankari Bulls of Bauchi State on Thursday afternoon trashed the Plateau Vipers in the ongoing Handball Division One league holding in Kaduna.
The Yankari boys who scored 27 were above the Plateau Vipers with 8 points.
Speaking on the achievement of his team, the Chairman Bauchi State Handball Association, Captain Musa Isah, said the performance of his Team was excellent, but there was room for improvement.
He disclosed that for the past seven years the Yankari Bulls have not attended league of this magnitude, saying it was normal in a tournament like the league to see players feel jittery or trying to adapt to the weather at their first outing, however he said with subsequent matches the Team would aim high.
Also, the Team Coach of Yankari Bulls, Ogar Enegbe, expressed satisfaction over his team performance in the competition despite the fact that for a long time they have not participated in a sport of such magnitude.
“I lack words to say because it gives me joy with the kind of workout I see from the boys. They play to instructions, because as a team when you play to instructions you get a glory,” he said.
The Head Coach of Delta Contingent, Theodora Ijogai, whose team defeated its Bayelsa counterpart by 24-20, said having just arrived for the league coupled with some challenges faced by the team while enroute Kaduna, she was impressed with her girls performance.
She said after her team might have rested, they will perform better in subsequent matches.
The Secretary General, Handball Federation of Nigeria, Mohammed Maigidansama, said the tournament has so far been hitch-free and smooth and he expected legends to be produced from it.
