ZAMFARA, North-West, Nigeria – Immediate past governor of Zamfara state, Alhaji Abdul-Aziz Yari has debunked allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Transition Committee (TC), led by former deputy governor, describing it as a calculated attempt to mislead the public for political gains.
Yari said the allegations that his administration left a debt to the tune of N251,951,849, 482.50 as liabilities for the present administration, is a calculated attempt to smear his good name and records in the state.
A statement signed by Yari’s Spokesman, Ibrahim Dosara, and made available to the media on Wednesday, noted that the Chairman of the PDP TC, Mallam Ibrahim Wakkala while serving as Deputy Governor to the immediate past administration was the Chairman Finance and General Purpose, (FGPC), Tenders Board; responsible for awards of all contracts in the state.
He described the allegations as crazy, baseless, unfounded and misleading; saying such allegations cannot be swept under the carpet by an highly respected and responsible government of Yari.
”Let’s put the record straight, the past administration left no debt behind, rather, handed over the sum of N7billion to the new government.
”The committee’s report has failed to distinguished between debt funds for the completion and ongoing projects”, he said.
Dosara wondered how a former deputy governor who served in different capacities for eight years could misled the public with such false claims.
According to him, Yari, while in office as governor provided wide range of dividends of democracy to the good people of Zamfara state.
“The Yari led administration had provided over 1000 Kms of roads across the state, water and electricity supply, educational and health facilities among others were being enjoyed during his tenure.”
Dosara further said that President Buhari once described Yari as a performing governor, and was quoted as saying: ” I have known Gov. Yari even before I became president, he invited me to commissioned projects. Yari is therefore one of the performing Governors in Nigeria.”
