KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – A group under the auspice of North East Women and Youth Support Group has commended Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriations, Senator Danjuma Goje for endorsing Senator Ahmed Lawan as the next Senate President.
National Coordinator of the group, Honourable Hassan Danjuma Samdi in a statement made available to Journalists in Kaduna on Thursday, June 6, 2019, said Senator Lawan as a senior high ranking lawmaker has all the requisite experience, leadership quality and ability to steer the affairs of the 9th Senate and National Assembly as the chairman.
The group also urged all newly elected Senators of the All Progressives Congress, (APC); People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), and other parties to back Senator Lawan’s emergence for a progressive and vibrant leadership he would bring to bear if elected.
According to the group, Lawan’s endorsement which took place today after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in his office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, is a sign that the coast is absolutely clear for all Senators to cue in and support the outright emergence of Senator Lawan.
The group noted that a vote for Lawan to emerge as the Senate President is a vote for unity of lawmakers, harmonious relationship among members of NASS and purposeful leadership devoid of rancour.
The group said; “Senator Lawan has a proven track records of performance , sound administrative prowess, humility and focused leadership which has been demonstrated repeatedly on the floor of the Senate and political positions held before now”.
The National Coordinator who is a Kaduna based politician and former House of Representatives aspirant under the platform of APC said the NASS now needs someone with vast experience and a goal getter, who can work under pressure to deliver dividends of democracy without friction between the Executive and lawmakers.
“Senator Goje’s endorsement gladdens our heart, because he did concede despite widespread calls for him to run for the office of Senate President.
“We also commend Senator Goje for heeding to President Muhammadu Buhari’s call to step down.
“Democracy is about give and take and we are not surprised that Senator Goje and others who are yet to do so will follow suit,” he said.
Hon. Samdi assured all the Senators and Members of NASS of support of the North East Group and youth across the north to ensure quality leadership from Senator Lawan .
