Jigawa Police Recovers 119 Illegal Arms Through Mop-Up Exercise

JIGAWA, North,-West, Nigeria – Not fewer than 119 illegal firearms, out of which 104 are Den guns, 65 Rounds of ammunition, and 6 life Cartridges were successfully recovered by the Jigawa State Police Command under the Inspector General of Police’s directives on mop up exercise of illegal firearms nationwide.

The Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, Bala Senchi disclosed this during a press briefing at the Command’s headquaters in Dutse on Tuesday, April 3, 2018.

According to him, the exercise tend to tackle the proliferation of firearms that has direct bearing on the current insecurity prevalent in most states in the federation.

CP Senchi called on the general public who are in posession of illegal firearms and are yet to surrender their arms to do so or be made to face the wrath of the law.

“Most of these recovered arms were voluntarily surrendered to the Police Task Force by the owners, while some are yet to show up.

“We are aware that about 60 personalities within Dutse metropilitan are in possesion of illegal firearms, and were given time to oblige to surrender otherwise we will force them to surrender.

“People in the state who have not surrender their prohibited firearms are called upon to expediously do that  before the task force swing into action on forceful recovery of such arms,” the CP warned.

The recovered illegal firearms include Three AK 47 Rifles, Two AK 56 Rifles, Three locally fabricated Rifles, One Dicon Pistol, One Pump Action,  Five locally made Pistols, and Ten locally made Guns.
