KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – Contrary to general beliefs that women who attend political meetings especially midnights or any other odd hours are loosed or not faithful to their partners, an Elder statesman, Mr. Yahaya Binniyat, has said such women are more faithful, caring and loving.
He stated this during a training on Civic Education and Participation for Women Project, (CEPWOP) organized by a Non-Governmental Organization, Empowering Women for Excellence Initiative, (EWEI) held in Tum, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Monday.
Mr. Binniyat who expressed dismay over holding political meetings or gatherings late into the night, advised the women to insist that such meetings should be held in the day time.
Responding to complaints by women as to why they were not active participants in politics because political meetings are held at midnight, he said as citizens the women has right to insist on meetings schedule as this would afford them the opportunity to attend such in order to avoid being schemed out of critical decisions that affect them in their various communities by their parties.

“It is the right of the women to demand that political meetings be held at day time because as women, wives and mothers, you have responsibilities at home. And if you demand for this right, stand by it,” Binniyat charged.

He encouraged the women to seized the opportunity availed them through the enlightenment and get involved in active politics since it was their rights as citizens. He said they could begin by joining political parties of their choice, then contest for elective positions starting from the ward level to councillorship, state, and subsequently to the federal level.
Binniyat however cautioned the women against going into politics because of instant gratification, as according to him, haven been in politics for over 30 years, the game is a long term investment, stressing that the gains of politics could only come through patience, perseverance and fear of God.
Team Leader of Tum community group, Mrs Theresa Biiniyat, while speaking on civic education, called on the women to put to use the gifts embedded in them and not shy away from participating in governance as it was their right as Nigerians.

A participant at the training, Mrs Hannah James, said she has benefitted a lot from the event, noting that as a shy person she is leaving the meeting more informed and could now boldly step down same to other women in the community or wherever she’s being called upon to do so.

“From now onward, I won’t standby and watch women doing nothing, but I will encourage and enlightened others on why women should actively participate in governance for the betterment of their communities,” she vowed.
Similarly, Mrs. Zipporah Yuri’s, who after being gingered by what she heard, said she is ready to actively participate in governance.
According to her, prior to the training she had believed that politics is a dirty game as claimed by people, and that politicians only come to use and dump people.

“But today, I have realized that all hands must be on deck to help developed and take my community to a greater height cum my country,” she said.

Responding, the Village Head of Tum, Mr Yakubu Binniyat, commended EWEI for making women in his community beneficiaries of it sensitization on civic education, noting that it was apt and timely particularly with the 2019 general elections at the corner.
The Royal Father said that the first time the NGO entered his domain, women who had dropped out of schools were encouraged to return to the classrooms to complete their education, and as a result many of them took the advice and went back to complete their secondary school education.
