KADUNA, North-West Nigeria – The International Cake Exploration Societe (ICES) Nigeria, has vowed to use cake making to forster unity in Northern Nigeria.

The ICES Liaison Officer for the North, Oluwatoyin Aiyegbusi-Iyela, disclosed this during a mini-exhibition held in Kaduna on Wednesday, March 28, 2018.

According to her, the need became necessary due to the false rumor that Kaduna State is a theatre of war; saying the gathering of over 67 cake makers organizations, including Vendors and manufacturers will go a long way in telling the true picture of the peaceful coexistence in the State.

The mini-exhibition with a theme: “Diversity In Culture: Our Northern Heritage”, she said is a bigger one that members normally attend in the United States of America.

She disclosed that the ICES was founded in 1976 in Monroe, Michigan, 43 years ago by Betty Jo Steinman with its headquarters in the United States of America.  She added that every country has a representative and in Nigeria the Country Representative is Susan Ogunbayode.

The ICES Northern Liaison Officer said that the association is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, advancing and encouraging exploration of the sugar arts.

“This year’s event has guests coming in from all over the country.  Most of our Vendors came all the way from Lagos, Onitsha and Port-Harcourt to join us.  The 2-day event is held once in a year with a theme.

“You know that Northern Nigeria is large, and we have different cultures which you can see portrayed on our cakes.  There is normally a theme cake of the show called; ‘Cake of the Show’, and has everything that represent the culture of the North on it.

“ICES is for everyone who is interested in sugar art in any form.  The organization includes home, master, professional decorators, famous artisans, teachers, show owners and wholesalers.

“All our displayed cakes reflect something about a particular culture in Northern Nigeria.  This event is where sugar lovers are brought together, and even if you are not a cake maker you can come and see,” she said.
