KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN), Kaduna State chapter, has described as unfortunate the statement made by retired General Theophilus Danjuma at the maiden convocation ceremony of Taraba State University, calling for Nigerians to armed and defend themselves because the military is not neutral.

Even as General Danjuma accused the Nigerian Armed forces of colluding with armed bandits to killing of Nigerians.

The Council stated this during a press conference jointly addressed by Sheikh Yusuf Rigachikun and Engineer AbdurRahman Hassand; Chairman Board of Trustees and Secretary respectively in Kaduna on Tuesday.

The Council said the statement coming from an Elder stateman like TY Danjuma and in the presence of students who are known to be volatile of youthful exuberance is very unfortunate, because it amounts to calling for anarchy, treason and treasonable felony.

The Council stated that the prosecution of the General will go a long way for the culture of impunity not to be precedential for the corporate existence of Nigeria; adding that no Nigerian citizen is bigger than Nigeria but Nigeria is indeed bigger than him.

The Clerics said that the former Chief of Army Staff and Minister of Defence is one of privileged Nigerians who has 24hours contact with the President and could have called him to expressed his opinion and advice appropriately instead of making it in the open.

“Has the General forgotten that the genocidal killings in Odi Bayelsa State, Jalingo, Mubi in Taraba State and Zaki Biam in Benue State, are the worst ever recorded under his supervision as the then Minister of Defence?

“One may tend to ask, how many children of the General still live within the Nigerian shores? Or is it because the oil well which made him acquire a lot, is no longer under his care, that makes him careless of the Nigerian state? Or could it be true that the General is likely to be a conspirator in proliferation of arms in the region?

“This is because the efforts maintained by the Nigerian Army of neutrality and demilitarisation of the armed militias is yielding positive result, and the suppliers and conspirators may soon be brought to book to face the wrath of the law.

“Or is the General bedeviled with ethnicity, religious bigotry and usurpation, upon all the privileges he has in the national cake at several different levels, not recognizing the previous killings and maiming of innocent Muslims in Takum and other towns in Taraba State,” it queried.

The Council commended the Federal Government for the successes recorded in the North-East against the Boko Haram, the return of Chibok and Dapchi girls and the relative peace recorded in the country, despite some limited shortcomings.

“We urge the government to have more concerted efforts in seeing that peace and security is maintained in the North-East in particular and the entire nation in general, while paying more attention to the economic development of country.

“The Council commended the Kaduna State Government for the efforts in maintaining peace and security in Kasuwan Magani Village of Kajuru Local Government Area.”
