KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – The Federal Government has been called upon to put mechanism in place to check piracy in the Nigerian film industry.

Excutive Director of EZZYKASH Media Concept, Mr. Isreal Audu, made the call at the closing ceremony of the first Kaduna international Film Festival held in Kaduna on Wednesday.

According to him, films piracy is having negative effect on Nigerian film industry because works of actors and producers are duplicated at will by the pirates.

Audu added that the way things are going is that actors and producers are working for the pirates at no cost.

Speaking on the first Kaduna films festival he said, eleven Filmmakers and Actors, and seven sponsors received award during the week long event while thirty others received certificate of attendance.

“It is more painful because most of the pirates are foreigners who takes back proceeds from the illegal practices to develop their own countries at the detriment of Nigerian film industry.

‘We therefore called on the security agents and relevant Agencies to come to the rescue of the industry,” he said
