KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – A Group of disengaged lecturers of the Federal University Dutsinma, (FUD), Katsina State, have cried out to the Federal Government to prevail on management of the institution to obey the directive for their recall as they want to contribute their quota to development of the institution.
According to the lecturers, there was no reason to recall some of the disengaged staff and keep others on endless waiting list.
The lecturers, who said that their appointments were terminated in September, 2016, by the former Vice Chancellor. Professor Haruna Abdul Kaita, lamented that the situation, where some of the affected persons were reinstated on ‘Man-Know-Man’ factor is unacceptable and called on the Ministry of Education to investigate the matter.
Briefing Journalists in Kaduna, six of the affected lecturers disclosed that their appointments which got terminated on September 2016, were regularised by the Federal Character Commission in February, 2016. And Management of the institution has no justified reason to keep posting them, especially when new employments are being made.
“As we speak, employment of staff is going on and they keep telling us to wait. We feel cheated especially, when we hear that new lecturers have been recruited.”
The leader of the team who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “If the VC in the interview acknowledged that the disengagement of lecturers was illegal, what is the rationale for failing to recall them?” he queried.
“The VC who on assumption of office, discovered that the staff were illegally disengaged and admitted that the staff were dismissed without due approval of the university’s council, now pretended we don’t exist.”
However, they said their investigations revealed that the VC’s claim to have reinstated 300 sacked staff is far from reality, as many of them were still in anticipation of their recall to service.
When contacted to react to the allegations raised by the six disengaged lecturers, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Bichi said, “The paper obtained from the Federal Ministry of Education and this remaining staff are last to be recall. As at now Council has approved their recall and we are awaiting funds from Govt to effect the Council’s directives.”
Speaking on interview granted NAN, Prof Bichi said, “I have never told anybody that all staff where recalled maybe I was quoted out of content.
“It’s a lie that people were recalled on personality criteria. The Council gave directives on how to recall the sacked staff which we are following the criteria,” he debunked
Meanwhile, the affected lecturers believed that the VC is being economical with the truth noting that “The excuse of no funds is unacceptable and flimsy. We want to return to work and contribute our quota to the development of the university .” They said.
