KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – After three editions of failure to pick gold medals in athletics event of the National Youth Games, (NYG), Team Kaduna has picked a gold and bronze medals at the just concluded fourth edition at the University of Ilorin, North-Central, Nigeria.

Both medals came courtesy of Salisu Habib with a gold in the 409m and a golden silver in the high jump event.

The golden athletes, whom rumours has it has been eyed by the talent department of the Delta Sports Commission, stands out as one of the Most Valuable Athletes at the Games.

An Assistant Athletics coach to the games, Coach Felix Oseibe, who is also the personal trainer of Habib, during an interview said he was excited over the feat.

He described the 4th National Youth Games as a huge success for them as a team, because the athletics team had never won any medal at previous editions.

“I sincerely want to thank God for His help. I also wish to thank management of Kaduna State Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture for availing me the opportunity.
“Because this is my first official assignment for Kaduna state, and with the help of God we won a gold and a silver.
“Salisu Habib who won both medals for us was the most experienced athlete in the team so I had to take advantage of his experience. For instance, I had to talk and put him through into taking high jump that he had never ventured into before and as God would have it, he won silver and later won the boys 400m final,” he narrated.

It would be recalled that in the maiden edition in 2013, Team Kaduna won a bronze in the 3,000m long distance race, which has since been scrapped from the competition.
