KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria – Former Deputy Managing Director, Dangote Group of Companies, Shuaibu Miqati has declared his intention to vie for the governorship seat of Kaduna State in 2019, under the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) saying the tragedy with Africa has to do with lack of ideas by those in power.
Miqati said he joined the party in 2000 and offered himself to serve as governor in 2007 and 2011, but lost at the primary elections, stressing that since the 2019 general elections are largely being contested based on integrity, it behoves on him, haven come from private sector with no issues attached to his name.
“At the presentation of my letter of intent to contest, I have laid bare a document that shows what I intend to do if I am opportune to be the governor of the state,” he stated.
“Even if we have superhuman beings as teachers in our schools, they are likely going to be unable to impact adequate knowledge. Indeed, the 70 -100 students are even lucky, as there are quite a number of students receiving lectures under the tree. How on earth will someone receiving lectures under the tree be able to effectively and efficiently educated?
“Regarding teaching aids, what are the quantum of textbooks, notebooks, writing materials and other instructoral materials the state government is able to provide?
“When you dimension the problems, you will realize that the issues are not just squarely on the teachers, government could have started with addressing the issue of facilities, then infrastructures, before talking of the quality of teachers.
“But the first thing the governor did was to sack 21,000 teachers. I think he could have also assess the teachers to see those that have reached their End of Thinking Capacity, (ETC), and those that have not.
“Kaduna have been blessed by previous leaderships that established college of education, Gidan Waya. We are also blessed that the Federal Government cited a Federal College of education in Zaria.
“Again, Kaduna state is so blessed to house the National Teachers Institute, (NTI). These three institutions could have served as a veritable tool to train and retrain, some of the teachers that could have been saved the agony of sack,” he said.
